According to Wikipedia, ASMR, or Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, is “a tingling sensation that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. a pleasant form of paresthesia….”. It can be triggered by all sorts of little noises, quiet voices, tapping, hair cutting, and so on.

I recently started listening to Youtube ASMR recordings at work, as a way of helping myself concentrate and relax in my open-plan office.

My favourite ASMR Artist at the moment is Ting Ting, and I listen to her brush my hair, massage my temples, do my makeup and nails, and even do a hair lice check (yeah I don’t get that one either) all day while I’m preparing patent applications and writing reporting letters to clients. It’s so very relaxing.

We marathon swimmers can get a little nervous when preparing for a long swim; and I believe the marathon swimming community is long overdue for some Aquatic ASMR. So fasten your goggle straps and get ready for some super-relaxing swimmer tingles.
